Story ‣ The Secret Recipe of Love and Memory

“Mom, I won’t be coming back for dinner tonight,” the girl said on her mobile phone as she entered the little canteen. “I’m just having dinner with friends.”

As a regular customer, the canteen owner was having his early supper and came over to take her order after she had sat down.

“I just told you I’m not coming back! I’ll talk to you later,” the girl said, ending the call.

Overhearing the conversation, the canteen owner asked, “Why aren’t you having dinner at home?”

“Well, I can go home and have dinner anytime,” the girl replied.

The canteen owner then asked, “Have you ever heard the story of the boy on rainy days?”

Shaking her head, the girl asked, “No, what is it about?”

Then the canteen owner began his story:

“Once there was a boy who would often fall sick on rainy days.

His mother would always prepare stir-fried eggs with tomatoes for him, and for some reason, he would begin to feel better.

As time went by, the boy grew up to be healthy and strong.

Sadly, his mother passed away, and whenever he missed her, he would make stir-fried eggs with tomatoes.

However, even after years of trying, it never tasted as good as his mother’s.

One day, he stumbled upon his mother’s old notebook and discovered what was missing.

It said to use only the freshest eggs, get to the market early – the earlier, the better. Other than salt and pepper, also add a little rice wine to the eggs.

Don’t cut the tomatoes too small – he doesn’t like them that way.

Finally, say to the eggs and tomatoes to take all the strength that I have and give it to my son.”
